This course is a basic conversation course where you will be allowed to
discuss topics of a general nature.  You will meet online with a minimum of three other students and a maximum of six students.

Topics Choices:

The following are just some of the topics you can choose in this course:

Conference Calling

Conference calling has started to be a normal part of everyday business life.  How confident are you in understanding your colleagues from other areas of the world?  Can you understand all dialects?  We offer a service that will help you increase your confidence and practice listening to other dialects in a non-threatening environment--your own home or office!

This course will require broadband internet connection and a microphone and headset. You will also need to have Skype downloaded onto your computer.  You will be put in a team of four people from around the world.  Each team member will be given a skype name and password and a role for a specific conference call. 

On the designated day and time, you will be set up on a conference call via Skype where you will follow the role play and conference call etiquette. The conference call will last approximately 45 minutes.  After the conference call, you will send an e-mail to the tutor who listened to the call as to what happened in this particular conference call and what you decided.  You will then receive feedback on your pronunciation, fluency, and credibility in the call as well as feedback on your listening and writing based on the e-mail that you sent the tutor.

General Conversation

The goals and objectives for this general course are:

• Increase confidence

• Activate passive vocabulary
• Learn new vocabulary
• Brush up on grammar rules

This course is a basic conversation course where you will be allowed to
discuss the topics that you are interested in.  The conversations can
be as deep or as light as you want.  You will tell the trainer the
types of topics that you want to discuss and the trainer will provide
language activities consisting of discussions, vocabulary activation
and a little grammar on these topics.  You can choose from the the list
provided or think of your own topics.

Pronunciation Practice

When you communicate internationally, can you be understood?  Are you
constantly having to repeat what you are saying because of your
pronunciation?  This course will help you improve your pronunciation so
that you will be understood by a majority of the population.

With your personal tutor, you will speak about various topics.  The tutor
will provide you with personal feedback and then give you the tools
to practice in the areas that you need improvement.

Telephone English

The goals and objectives for this course includes the following:

• Increase confidence
• Improve listening skills
• Improve speaking skills
• Familiarize yourself with proper telephone phrases in English

The phrases covered will include the following:

• Beginning the call in English
• Ending the call in English
• Answering the phone in English
• Getting the native English speaker to slow down
• Spelling in English over the phone

This lesson will take one hour.

You can have this lesson with or without the web camera.  You can choose
the audio media that you want to use whether it is SKYPE, MSN, YAHOO,
etc.

Workplace Vocabulary

Are you comfortable using the vocabulary from your own field?

Do you need to practice speaking and discussing the vocabulary words that you read all the time?
